08/25/2015  5S LEAN MANUFACTURING

Chris E. Hair, MIS, Colonel, USAF (ret), and Chief Operating Officer, Optitek, Inc. is appointed to lead the 5S implementation.

The 5S process is a methodical team based approach to organizing a work space to ensure it is tidy, arranged ergonomically, efficient, and capable of repeatable, quality output. The five phases can be translated from the Japanese as Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Straighten), Seiso (Shine), Seiketsu (Standardize), and Shitsuke (Sustain).

Although the origins of the 5S methodology are in manufacturing, it can be applied to knowledge-economy work, information, software, and media in the place of physical product; it has expanded from manufacturing to health care, education, government, and other industries.

President, Optitek, Inc. Ricki McGuire states, “This process, when implemented properly, results in business improvement and efficiency. It does not happen overnight, but is well worth the effort. In the end, we will be more organized, more efficient, and much cleaner.” Chief Operating Officer, Chris Hair, comes to Optitek holding a Lean Certification with more than 30 years of experience.
